COLLEGE STUDENTS "THROW JUNK" OUTSIDE OF PRUDENTIAL CENTER CO-ED Magazine Hosts 'Junk Ball' Home Run Derby in Boston's Boylston Plaza
Providence, RI - September 20, 2005 - More than 400 college students lined up outside the Prudential Center on Boylston Street in Boston Sunday to participate in the first annual Junk Ball Home Run Derby contest. JunkBall Backyard Baseball is a revolutionary new kind of plastic 'WiffleT' ball that with a twist makes it easy for anyone to play a truly competitive game of plastic backyard baseball.
Junk Ball features a radically re-designed plastic baseball with unique "Program a Pitch" dial. This adjustable dial changes the way the air flows through the ball, letting anyone throw all kinds of "junk" pitches including curves, fastballs, sinkers, risers, sliders, even knuckle balls. Batters participating in the Home Run Derby were challenged to hit the ball as it magically changes direction as it flies through the air towards the batter.
The event kicked off the "CO-ED magazine" Junk Ball tournaments which will be held on college campuses nationwide throughout the fall through spring, 2006.
The home run derby, held during College Fest weekend on September 17th, was sponsored by Little Kids, makers of the new Junk Ball backyard baseball and CO-ED Magazine, a new publication written specifically for college students.
Boston's Boylston Plaza was transformed into a Junk Ball Baseball park. At Sunday's home run derby, more than 400 players took their turn at bat trying to hit the most home runs with the new Junk Ball Backyard Baseball. The first place winner hit ten home runs and was awarded prizes including an all expenses paid trip to Spring Break, a Razor electric powered motorcycle, a $150 Ralph Lauren Rugby gift certificate and a Jabra Headset. The second place winner who hit 5 home runs won a Nirve chopper bicycle, a $100 Ralph Lauren Rugby gift certificate and a Jabra headset. The third place winner who hit 4 home runs went home with a $50 Ralph Lauren Rugby gift certificate and Jabra headset.
